1962 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz 390/325HP V8 Convertible
The 1962 Eldorado Biarritz was Cadillac’s top-of-the-line convertible model and a large luxurious Cadillac built in this particular bodystyle for only four years (1961-64) with slight re-stylings each year and no primary competition in its category.
Only 1,450 of these exclusive and luxurious Eldorado’s were built in 1962 and are now a very rare automobile, compared for example with the Series 62 convertible with some 16,800 built in 1962! It could easily carry six people and had a power top for the first time and also featured the 390/325HP V8 engine. These were the final years of the rear wheel drive Cadillac and amongst the best of the breed. With these rare mid-sixties models becoming increasingly thinned out now, these last year Biarritz models are now being appreciated by Cadillac enthusiasts more than ever before as an increasingly desirable and collectible Cadillac from its very best years!
This particular example is in extraordinarily fine condition throughout and was recently frame up restored as required with new ‘Pompeian Red’ paint.
The body of the Cadillac was disassembled and and taken down to bare metal and professionally repainted in correct 1962 Cadillac ‘Pompeian Red’ Poly and then re-assembled. All the stainless trim was disassembled and sent out for professional polishing. The front and rear bumpers were newly re-plated for pure perfection. The car has four new ‘Coker’ wide White-Wall radial tires. The car has new chrome door handles, door seals, vent window seals, trunk seal, rear window edge seals, window sweeps & sill plates were installed etc etc.
The recent records show that at no time was any expense spared on this particular car’s preventive maintenance either and shows many thousands of dollars spent on whatever the car required to be in top notch condition. The brake booster is new as well as the fuel sending unit and the wiper motor and the car has also boasts a new radiator, all new hoses, all new belts, suspension bushings, all new brakes and wheel bearings, ball joints, sway bars etc etc.
At $6,610 before options, this was Cadillac’s most expensive 1962 offering apart from the extended wheelbase Fleetwood 75s. Standard options included power vent windows, 6-way power front bench seat, automatic transmission, power brakes and steering and power top.
The top boot cover is ‘Black’ matching the sumptuous ‘Black’ leather upholstery, its all original real wood trim on the door panels, the car has a new ‘White’ vinyl top and its original spare wheel and jack are in their all original trunk compartment with a very rare original trunk carpet and mat and spare wheel with cover etc, still all intact as in 1962! The floor boards, trunk and all the typical rust-prone areas are completely solid and rust-free and the car has no signs of any accidents – a superbly handsome & razor straight car.
The car has it’s original matching # 390/325HP V8 engine matched to it’s original ‘Hydra-matic’ automatic transmission. This particular car drives absolutely magnificently – it must really be driven to be fully appreciated – does not miss a beat and purrs like a kitten – drives straight as an arrow with no strange road wobbles, shakes or rattles – a truly remarkable daily driver that will give any modern day car a run for it’s money! The transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears and the car has four virtually new wide white wall tires. Please note that the car also has it’s original spare wheel and tire and original jack as previously stated!
This is a rare opportunity to own a great daily driving and mechanically completely sorted and a rust free and superb example of a 1962 Cadillac EldoradoBiarritz Convertible! This is the perfect car for the Cadillac enthusiast to add to any serious collection or simply a great daily driving and turn-key ready example of one very fine.
